Top 5 Things That Might Surprise You About Cape Coral

By Ronnie Fazer

While you have definitely heard about Cape Coral and you might already be thinking of visiting, there are some interesting facts about the sunny retreat that you might not know yet, facts which this article aims to talk about. Without further ado, here we go:

1. The municipality, founded in 1957, was developed as a master-planned and pre-platted community. What the former means is any community carefully planned from its very inception, constructed typically in previously undeveloped areas, unlike townships that developed ad-hoc. As another fun tidbit to know and an interesting comparison, Washington D.C. is also a master-planned community.

A plat is a map, drawn to scale, that shows the divisions of a piece of land. Such plats show subdivisions into blocks, with streets and alleys. Reasons for platting include designation of roads, ensuring that all properties have access to such roads, splitting land for other public use, such as parks or areas for flood protection and access for all properties to public utilities.

2. With over 400 miles (640 kilometers) of navigable waterways, Cape Coral is known as a "Waterfront Wonderland" and has more miles of navigable canals than any other city in the world, including Venice, Italy. Actually, Cape Coral's canal system is so extensive that local ecology and tides have been affected!

Some of the canals have access to the Gulf of Mexico and also provide many residents with waterfront living. These extensive waterways are contained in Cape Coral's total area of 120 square miles (310.8 square kilometers), with 91% of it land and 9% water. The total area size makes it the largest city between Tampa and Miami, Florida.

3. Out of 365 days in a year, Cape Coral averages 355 days of sunshine. Perfect weather is practically guaranteed in Cape Coral, with temperatures averaging between 85F (29C) and 65F (18C). Such great weather classifies Cape Coral with having a subtropical climate.

4. While starting out as a community for retirees, residents under 25 now outnumber those over 65. In its starting years, Cape Coral was known as a community with many retired residents. This changed with the population and construction boom in the 1990s, which brought in younger families and professionals.

Now, more than 60 percent of the population is between the ages of 15 and 64 and Southwest Florida's 18-24 age group is growing at a faster rate than that of the state of Florida and even the entire United States. This makes Cape Coral both a young and dynamic community, and one for total relaxation and bliss.

5. Following the 2006 real estate bust, you can afford a house in Cape Coral. Cape Coral was considered to be one of the largest real estate and building booms in the entire United States of America. When the crisis came, the city was listed number 1 out of top 25 foreclosure cities in the United States and for this reason, a lot of properties became available at highly discounted prices, making them great for an investment. Foreclosures in this market quickly adjusted property values back down to a level that the city had not seen in many years, making that in late 2009, a new home could be purchased for under $80,000, more than a steal and under a total bargain!

Explore Turkey by Taking a Road Trip Through the Country

By Dipika Patel

It can be hard to see a lot of a country you are visiting when you stay in one place and if you're heading to Turkey and want to get to the heart of the country, you might be interested in taking a road trip. Many people who book flights to Turkey choose to remain in one seaside resort for the duration of their trip, but by doing this you may miss out on some of the nation's most beautiful and inspiring sights.

While its Mediterranean coastline is itself breathtaking - offering visitors azure waters and quiet beaches - there are so many other landscapes to see that it'd be a shame not to take time to visit each one. And a great way to do this is to hire a car and drive around the country yourself. Many flights arrive at Dalaman airport, making this a good place to begin your adventure. From here, you can head to the beaches of Fethiye on the southern coast.

Olu Deniz is one of the most well-known shorelines in this area, famed for its serene lagoon. Swim in the peaceful turquoise waters and recline on the golden sands of the cove, making sure you get some rest before you embark on the rest of your trip.

There are many picturesque fishing villages in the surrounding areas, such as Faralya, where you can get a taste of the traditional way of living. You may want to head further inland from this point as this will give you the chance to take a look at Turkey's varied countryside, from its mountain ranges to its vibrant green forests. Drive around the winding route along the Taurus Mountains and you'll be able to get some fantastic views of the Mediterranean. It is worth heading to the Central Anatolia Region, as this is home to one of the country's most fascinating sights, Cappadocia.

Here you will see a vast expanse of land covered in white lunar formations. Chimneypot-shaped rocks fill the vista, which were created by earth movements and give you an idea of the rich geological history of this nation. Walk around the rocks or see them from above in a hot air balloon ride for an unbeatable view of the strange sight. This is sure to be one of the most memorable parts of your trip!

After seeing this example of Turkey's beautiful natural landscape, you are likely to enjoy meandering through its mountaintops some more. With a typical land level of 1,132 m, much of the country is covered in hillsides so it is worth having a better exploration of its rocky peaks and woodland areas by going on mountain biking trips or simply putting on a pair of walking shoes and hiking. You may feel you need a break after exerting so much energy and a stop at Izmir could be the answer. Turkey's third largest city will offer you all the amenities and facilities you might want after a few days driving through its countryside. What's more, as it is situated on the Aegean Coast, it also has plenty of beaches to choose from.

Lie on the shoreline and cool off in the water during the day before putting on your glad rags and visiting the city's restaurants and bars at night. You can get a good idea of what cosmopolitan life is like in Turkey with a visit to Izmir and visitors can embrace its vibrant atmosphere. Head to its many shopping centres and entertainment venues before replenishing your energy by trying freshly-caught fish at its eateries.

If you've acquired an interest in learning more about Turkey's ancient past, you may want to visit the sites of Ephesus and Pergamum, located near to the city. Indeed, Izmir is a great destination for you to look at the exciting journey you have taken across the country, or a resting point from which to continue your road trip around the rest of this beautiful nation.

Going on a road trip is one of the best ways to explore a country and if you want to embark on an adventure like this once you have booked your flights to Turkey, Jewel in the Crown Holidays can help you. We offer the option of car hire in Turkey, as well as provide a range of accommodation in Turkey so you can start planning your trip today!

Konstanz Travel Guide

By Matthew Talbot

Konstanz

The quaint city of Konstanz (Constance in English) is flanked on the borders of Lake Constance (German: Bodensee) and Switzerland. This lake town is an ideal place for contemplation while looking at its serene waterscapes. With your trusty Eurail pass, you can travel to Konstanz via the scenic route and then when you get to this vibrant city, breathe and live in the city's vitality and explore this little corner of Europe.

History Of Konstanz

The history of Konstanz dates back to the Stone Age, and around 50 CE Romans built a settlement within the city. It was a significant capital for spiritualism and trading. From 1414 to 1418, during the Council of Konstanz, the papal selection was held which put an end to the faction. Around 1460, Konstanz tried to enter into the Swiss Confederacy but did not make the cut. Because of the city's propinquity to Switzerland it was saved from the bombings and desecration during the Second World War.

Things To Do In Konstanz

Konstanz is a city full of charm and history, where tourists have no immunity against its alluring pull. There is the Altes Rathaus, or the Old Town Hall. The building was constructed during the Renaissance period and it boasts of enthralling and vibrant frescoes - festoon of fruits, flowers, shields and robust knights brandishing gigantic swords. And for women who still dreams of being rescued by a knight in shining armor, the site's courtyards should not be missed. There is the Altes Schloss in Meersburg, which is a populated castle. It has dungeons, a commanding hall of knights and it also offers a scenic view of the lake. Then of course, there's the Mainua Island, where millions of narcissi grace and tulips thrive especially during spring time. Azaleas, roses, rhododendron and dahlias bloom afterwards, making this island a picturesque scene. Mainau Island can be accessed by boat, which offers a great view of the castle that sits on top of the small hill. The city's night life is also vibrant. There are countless bars and theaters to choose from, such as the K9, Seekuh, Stadtheather, and Theatercafe.

Getting To Konstanz By Rail

For Eurail pass holders, Konstanz Hauptbahnhof (main train station) is conveniently located in the old town. As Konstanz is close to the Swiss border, there are train services operated by German and Swiss railways. There are direct services to Karlsruhe in Germany, and Zurich in Switzerland.

Traveling is one of the best ways to relax, meet new people, and visit beautiful places you have seen in movies. Many people can only dream of traveling to exotic places and seeing breathtaking views. Here are important Travel tips to consider.
Get a good deal on a hotel. Unless you are staying with friends or family, you will probably be in the market for a good hotel room. Normally, you can spend your entire budget on hotels and motels. I suggest trying a site like priceline.com. You can name your own price, and get some really great deals on rooms and car rentals.
When you make your reservation, double-check that pets are allowed. An important advantage of reserving online is that you can see - in writing - whether or not pets are permitted and any restrictions. Online, you can print out your reservation receipt that includes the "pets allowed" information. Verbal reservations leave more room for misunderstanding and miscommunication. If reserving by telephone, ask the reservation person to mail you a confirmation receipt that includes the "pets allowed" information.
Special Promotions "" Cruise Lines sometimes offer cabin upgrades as an incentive based on a qualifying factor. The qualification may be membership in a past passenger group, a group promotion, payment with a certain credit card, frequent flier promotion, or other qualification. Check with your agent at the time of booking to confirm whether any of these promotions are available.
Make other travel concomitant arrangements on time:

It is important that you make the arrangements for transport, that is, taxis or cabs on a prior basis so that you do not have to wait unnecessarily when you reach your travel destination. Your travel agent can help you out in both these areas very easily as travel agents have contacts with all good accommodation keepers and transportation companies in various travel destinations.
Travel mugs come in a variey of volume sizes too. If you only drink a small amount, consider a smaller 8 oz. travel mug. On the other hand, if you want a large amount of coffee or tea to drink, consider a larger 16 or 20 oz. travel mug.

Cruising during this time of year is also far from the typical cruise. You can still enjoy traditions like drinking eggnog or singing Christmas carols. You'll just be doing it poolside with a vast ocean in front of you. Most of the cruise lines plan a whole different style of voyage for their Christmas cruises. The ships' officers and entire crew provide a typical Christmas ambience on board from Christmas trees, turkey dinners, and visits from Santa, not to mention spirited New Year's Eve parties with the countdown to midnight.
Most cruise lines not only offer parties and festivities for adults and children alike, but they also provide religious services by ministers, priests, and rabbis. Being on vacation doesn't mean you can't partake in the activities that honor what Christmas is all about.
The itineraries of Christmas cruises are sometimes arranged differently than they would be any other time of year. They do this so that you don't end up in port on Christmas day when everything but the beaches might be closed. Many cruise lines use varying itineraries so that the important holidays like Christmas are spent at sea.

Most of the major cruise lines offers special cruises for Christmas and New Year's.

· Carnival Cruise Lines decorates the ships with wreaths, lights, and trees and provide many shows and activities with holiday themes. The Camp Carnival activities for the kids are centered on Christmas. On New Year's Eve the adults can attend a rousing party complete with hats, noisemakers and champagne.

· Celebrity Cruise Lines also offers all the decorations and holiday activities and each passenger receives a gift.

· Costa Cruises celebrates Christmas Italian style.

· Disney cruise ships are full of holiday decorations and cheer. They turn their Castaway Cay into a snowy winter wonderland, island style.
Other cruise lines that go all out for the Christmas holidays include Crystal, Cunard, Holland America, Norwegian, Oceania, and Princess. You can choose a Christmas cruise that sails to any typical cruise destination and have the opportunity to see how other countries celebrate their holidays. Cruising at Christmas also means you have escaped the normally unavoidable, cooking, cleaning and entertaining relatives!

The travel and tourism for every one

Author: Ian R O Clayton

A vacation is a plan for recreation and tourism that is planned by an individual for himself or for a group of people. It has be observed that people prefer going on trips and journeys when they have offs from their work, school or college.

Vacations are generally planned with the friends and family. They are the time when days are spend relaxing and enjoying.

Travel and tourism is planned for leisure and recreational purposes. So when you are travelling, you become a tourist. A tourist is a person who is at a particular time ravelling and staying out o the place and environment where he usually stays.

Some people travel a lot, while others travel quite occasionally. Depending upon what suits you, travelling is something that you cannot do away with. O matter how much you love your home and I am sure you equally love moving out of those home and take break.

It is a leisure activity. Tourism has been noticed as a preferred activity at places like France, Greece, United States, Egypt, etc.

Many islands like Philippines, Maldives, Fiji, etc are places people visit again and again. It is the travel and tourism industry that is the major driving force of the economy of a number of countries.

Leisure tourism

Leisure tourism is a type of tourism that is associated to the Industrial revolution. These tourists who are known as the leisure tourist travel to the tropics during both the summer season and the winter season. Such locations for leisure tourism include places like Bali, Brazil, Cuba, etc.

These places do not see seasonal tourist and in fact people like to travel to these locations also at any time of the year. This is the reason as to why these places remain quite populated most of the times.

Winter tourism

As the name suggests, these are the places that are made for tourism only in the winter season. The most popular activity at such a place is skiing. In the earlier times many hotels used to remain closed during the winter season. Lately all of these people who are a part of the tourism industry have realised what winter tourism is all about.

Many of these skiing resorts are there is mainly the European countries.

Mass tourism

Mass tourism is like a perfect and well equipped vacation and holiday destination. They have innumerable facilities that will keep the tourists' busy and engaged at all times.

I will also briefly talk over here about the newly coined terms with respect to tourism.

They are:

1. Ecotourism

Eco tourism is a form of tourism that is done usually to protect the endangered places. The tourist to such a location is well educated and he very well understands the purpose of his visit.

The funds that he is giving in this holiday time period will be used for some noble cause. This might lead to some economic development or some sort of upliftment of the people or some animal species that is endangered. This is something where people are planning to do a lot these days.

2. Pro-poor tourism

This is a type of tourism in the poorest of the poor countries. These are the under developed or the developing countries.

With the help of pro – poor tourism, these destinations get the required attention. The money thus generated is used for helping the people of the community.

Duke and Duchess of Cambridge Announce Their Move to Kensington Palace

by Iain Surman
According to the St James Palace, the newly wed Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are to move into an apartment at Kensington Palace. This is where the late Princess Diana lived after her divorce from the Prince of Wales. However this is a temporary home as they are still considering their options for the longer term.

William III brought part of Hyde Park back in 1689 and commissioned Sir Christopher Wren to design Kensington Palace. The idea behind the park was to have a peaceful refuge where visitors to London and its inhabitants could go to escape the city. It gets incredibly busy in fine weather with sunbathing, joggers and runners.

Kensington Palace is located in the famous Kensington Palace Gardens which is a slice of heaven with the metropolitan London as a backdrop. From being in the gardens it is strange to think that just outside the gates you have the hustle and bustle of the busy London streets.

The Kensington palace gardens are located between Bayswater and the Royal Albert Hall which is literally across the road from the Albert Memorial on the grounds.

In the grounds you have the Diana Memorial Playground (close to the palace,) which is a Peter Pan themed playground for children to play on. Over 750,000 children visit the playground each year and there is enough space for them to run around and allow the parents a bit of respite.

The Kensington Park gardens also feature the Italians Gardens which are an ornamental water garden which were inspired by Prince Albert in 1860-1. Stroll along The Long River and you come across the Peter Pan statue donated to the park by the Peter Pan author J M Barrie in 1912. The statue is settled in a small copse of trees and overlooks the river facing eastwards.

To the south of the gardens you will find the Albert Memorial located between Queens Gate and Alexandra Gate, but it is also directly opposite the Royal Albert Hall. The memorial gold plated and is in memory of Queen Victoria's husband Prince Albert who died in 1861.

Walking back towards centre of the park is the Victorian round pond which is popular for its swans and ducks and where people sail their model boats.

Then turn westwards you have Kensington Palace which will be the temporary marital home for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge when they are staying in London.

Traveller Health Tips Dubai

 by James Logan
Remarkably, the UAE was one of only two countries with no reported cases of holiday illnesses recorded in a survey by the leading British consumer magazine, Holiday Which? This is a tribute to the success of government immunization programmes, the provision of adequate clean water and high standards of cleanliness in hotels and restaurants.
Vaccinations :- No special immunizations are required, however it would be wise to check beforehand if you are travelling from a health-risk area. Tetanus inoculations are usually recommended if you are considering a long trip. Polio has been virtually eradicated in the UAE and hepatitis is very rare and can be avoided by taking precautions. Hepatitis A is transmitted by contaminated food and water, Hepatitis B, C, D through sexual contact, the use of unsterilized needles and blood transfusions.
Malaria :- There are very few mosquitoes in the towns and cities and, since it is not considered to be a risk, malaria tablets are rarely prescribed for travel in the UAE. However, mosquitoes will find you if you are camping near the mountains or exploring wad is or date groves in the evening, so cover up and use a suitable insect repellent as it is always safer to avoid being bitten. If you are in any doubt consult your doctor or your nearest tropical medical centre before your trip.
Sunburn :- The sun can be fierce throughout the year so heatstroke and heat exhaustion are always a risk. Adequate sunglasses, hats and high factor sun creams are essential, especially for children.
Health Insurance :- Public hospitals, where the medical facilities are very good, will deal with emergencies free of charge, however it would be wise to take out medical insurance to cover all eventualities, especially if you need to attend a private hospital or clinic where treatment can be quite expensive. In all instances, medical procedures, including the use of sterilized needles and the provision of blood transfusions are very reliable.
Doctors :- If you need a doctor, ask at your hotel, or ring your embassy for recommendations. If you need emergency treatment and are unable to contact a doctor, try one of the major hospitals listed below.
Pharmacies :- Most medicines are readily available at pharmacies. Each emirate has at least one pharmacy open 24 hours a day. Check in local newspapers for information. In some emirates a 24-hour municipality emergency number (Abu Dhabi 02 777 929; Dubai 04 2232323) lists the locations of open chemists.
Dentists :- Good dentists are readily available, including orthodontists.
Alternative Medicine :- Aspirin or paracetamol (acetaminophen in the US) Useful for pain or fever. Antihistamine (such as Benadryl) Useful as a decongestant for colds and allergies, to ease the itch from insect bites or stings and to help prevent motion sickness. There are several antihistamines on the market, all with different pros and cons (eg a tendency to cause drowsiness), so it's worth discussing your requirements with a pharmacist or doctor. Antihistamines may cause sedation and interact with alcohol so care should be taken when using them. Antibiotics Useful if you're travelling well off the beaten track, but they must be prescribed and you should carry the prescription with you. Loperamide (e.g. Imodium) or Lomotil Useful for diarrhoea; prochlorperazine (eg Stemetil) or metaclopramide (eg Maxalon) for nausea and vomiting. Chinese medicine is readily available. There is also a homeopathic hospital.
